Twitter is an online social networking platform that enables people to express anything they want on it. A number of people use Twitter to stay up-to-date with current affairs, not only to catch up with the latest news but also to exchange opinions with each other on specific topics. Although Twitter fully supports freedom of expression of users, governments and other authorities are required to take action on blocking the access, also called censorship, to some unfortunate contents that might cause harms the users. I completely support censorship on Twitter due to some possible negative consequences.

First, children are at risk to be exposed to some inappropriate contents on Twitter like pornography, sexual violence, rude word use and gambling due to its opened source. Additionally, children are more likely to imitate those improper acts if they are not restricted to access to those improper contents. The censorship on Twitter is, therefore, necessary to be applied on social media, not only on Twitter but also other kinds of it in order to prevent children’s imitation.

Second, Twitter can easily contribute to cyber-bullying because Twitter regards itself as the “free speech wing of the free speech party” that means it is so free to tweet anything on Twitter even though it is bad for other people. Twitter clients may encounter different types of harassment including stalking, insults and sexual harassment. Moreover, Twitter has become where maltreatment and harassment are most frequently found since this freedom makes people bully other people simply. Accordingly, there should be censorship on such harsh contents to avoid social bullying.

Last but not least, the censorship on Twitter can assist a country to protect social stability and national safety. To explain, some people who might have bad intention of destroying a country can tweet anything, including releasing false information or distorting facts, which might cause damage to that national economy and stability. Applying the censorship, thus, is beneficial to a county which it can filter and block unpleasant and illegal activities and crimes.

In conclusion, I think Censorship on Twitter should be applied. despite the fact that Twitter is a platform that provides people with freedom and privacy, it is not always good because it can lead to negative results. Consequently, censorship for some contents is recommended for the government or other related authorities to apply it on Twitter to prevent likely negative consequences. The censorship can help children protect from unsuitable contents, reduce social media bullying, and protect the economies interest.
