Nowadays, Internet is very important for our life.There are many people using the internet in many ways. Some people use it for selling things, so they can earn money from the internet. Some people use it for connecting people, so they can connect the others every time that they want. Even if they aren’t stay together or long distance. Some people use internet for learning or playing game. These people get many advantages from the internet. But when we use the internet, not only the advantages that we get from the internet but there also many disadvantages that we get from the internet. The persons who sell things on the internet. They must pay advertising fees when they post on the internet. The persons who use the internet for connecting people. They must give their personal information to the application that they use for connecting people. The persons who use internet for learning or playing game They pay money for the items in their games if the want to win in the games or they pay money for lesson that they want to learn but it’s not free. Using internet gets both advantages and disadvantages. For this reason, “Internet censorship” is the important thing to reduce the disadvantages of the internet. Everybody will get only advantages when they use the internet and get at least the disadvantages. Internet censorship is used as the tools for control or restriction of contents that people can approach or see on the internet. Internet censorship differs in each country. Each country hasdifferent rules to control and show transparency of their management about internet censorship. In my opinion, internet censorship has both advantages and disadvantages. It protects people who access the internet from bad and violence information and it also protect me because I am one of the people who access internet every day.

Content blocking is one of the advantages of internet censorship. It is software that is launched for limit or prevention of accessing websites which is called “WEB FILTERS” or “CENSORWARE”. It immediately blocks contents which is violent or dangerous for the persons who use the internet especially children. For example, the videos of intentionally killing by cutting off the head of a person which show on the internet like YouTube and Twitter in a few years ago. If the children access to these videos, they will be scary. Moreover, parents can use internet censorship to control their children by using software that is designed especially for parents. Parents can prevent their children from accessing inappropriate contents on the Internet such as some links of websites that are not appropriate for children. Furthermore, governments use internet censorship to control people who use the internet in their countries. To control about contents that cannot show on the internet, for example, some contents can trigger conflicts in the country during the election. Some important military information which if not protected can put the country’s security and its population at possible risks. A study on Internet censorship in Thailand shows the blocking websites about the threats to national security which are almost 74,686 of URLs have been blocked since 2007.

The disadvantage of internet censorship that we can see obviously is a limit on a person’s need to seethe contents they want to see or the contents about the truth of the event that happened in our society. Internet censorship made the other person’s activities on the internet hard to see. It keeps these activities secretly such as parents when they want to know their children activities on the internet. It won’t be easily to see unless they have password to access in their children’s internet activities history. As well as seen on Facebook’s decision about showing news that is nice and pleasant for people who use Facebook. To create a good feeling for everyone who use Facebook but don’t tell the truth about any events. Furthermore, Facebook decides to delete many events, example the event about user’s memory which has more than 500 persons attending. So, the users lose memory about the event that is deleted by Facebook. The next example is about “SAPPRFT bans set-top box apps”. The SAPPRFT is the China’s State Administration of press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. SAPPRFT controls everyone’s enjoyment by banned 81 third-party applications forpeople who use set-top boxes in their home as well as try to control the internet TV industry. Many popular applications were banned by SAPPRFT because SAPPRFT want to maintain the quota and support applications owned by China Company during China’s declining cable TV industry. It means that the applications own by foreign country cannot use in China. So that people in China cannot use any application that own by foreign country, if they want.

Finally, Internet censorship has both advantages and disadvantages. For me, Internet censorship is a good thing. It gives many advantages to the internet users more than the advantages. However, the transparency and supervision of internet censorship are the most important things to have in each country to balance the benefits of both people who use internet and companies who use internet for their profits. As we seen above, If SAPPRFT allow the applications from the other countries to use in China, It can help increasing cable TV industry and people in China can also use vary applications from China company and foreign country company.
