Firstly, I would like to talk about what AI is. AI stands for artificial intelligence which is what provides our lives to be easier. It has its pros and cons but I believe that not many of us knows the cons of it.

Artificial Intelligence is one of the best invention we’ve ever created or thought of. It’s in our daily life and it makes our lives easier. AI develops really fast, faster than you think. When I was in grade 4, I still used Samsung Hero and that time there was Iphone 4S. 4 years past, there was Iphone X. Can you see how fast it develops? It might be a good thing for us now, but I think it’s bad in our near future.

In 10 years, there might be flying cars or travelling at the speed of light, no one knows. But professor Stephen Hawking said that it would destroy humanity. Robots will read our mind and destroy what we are doing. It might sound weird now but in the near future, it wouldn’t be. He said if we didn’t die because of climate, then robots will do their job. Robots are robots, we are we. It doesn’t have sense of human. We might be their boss now, but soon they will be our boss. Hawking said we should stop developing Artificial Intelligence now before it’s too late.

It’s not just Stephen Hawking who warned us, but also world’s leading inventor Elon Musk said it too. He said that right now robots can develop itself without our help. They are way smarter than us. It also knows what we are thinking. Even though he has many AI companies, he doesn’t really use it often. It might not be asteroids that kills, it’s the robots that is starting to kill us slowly without us knowing. The word kill doesn’t mean dying, it means losing our humanity. In my opinion, AI also destroys real-life relationships. kids are on their phones/tablets and not talking to anyone. I saw a family at the restaurant, while they were waiting for their food, all they just did was starring on their phones without any real life conversation. I also saw a person crossing the road without looking for cars because that person is busy playing the phone. Imagine if they died, Is it still the car’s fault?

To summarize this, artificial intelligence are both good and bad. It depends on how and when we are using it. As you can see, many famous people has warned us about it so we must use it wisely. Some situation AI might be a better choice such as autopilot in planes, but sometimes it’s not.

In 10 years, there might be flying cars or transportation at a very high speed, no one knows. Have you ever heard of non-pilotted airplane? It’s a cool thing and it shows the development of AI. No more human error because the airplane is taken over by a robot. But if you think carefully, what about the pilots? The answer is they just lost their job. Pilots did absolutely nothing wrong but they just got fired because of a robot. Not just pilots but also other occupations that humans are being replaced because of AI. In the future, robots will do human’s job, it possibly do it better than us. Why would we let the robots do our job. Instead I think if we use it wisely, we could use it to help us do our work easier. If not, then soon it will be our boss.

Right now, there are smartphones, tablets and other kinds of technology that is programmed by AI. Many people owns it and it’s really convenient to our lives. However, there are some disadvantages about them. If you look at your daily life, think about what you do since you’ve woken up. Is it checking your phone? Tatsuo Tabata, a professor from Osaka University said that AI made humans too dependent, which made humans lost their mental capacitites. I agree with him because it really destroys mental capacities. I can give you an obvious example. When I was in grade 3, before students went home they will get their notebooks out to write what homeworks they have. But nowadays, they have their reminders on their phones/tablets. There was one of my friend who use the reminder to remind him about his homeworks. One day his tablet is broken, he couldn’t remember any of his homework because he always uses the reminder. So he doesn’t need to remember anything at all, but this situation taught him that he mustn’t be too dependent on AI.

Nowadays there are many robots in different places like hospital or mall. They are there just to greet customers. But it’s a good example of how AI works. It can only do what it was programmed to do. For example, if it’s programmed just to say hi, it just says hi. It couldn’t say “how are you” because it’s not programmed to say. They can’t work outside of what they were programmed for. It also costs a lot of money because right now we only have a few experienced AI programmers. So I think it would be better if we try to use less AI and use more humans because robots aren’t humans, they don’t have emotions like us.

To summarize this, we should try to use less AI because if we still use them more and more often, it could lead to disasters. Humanity would be taken, people lost their job. These are things that are happening right and it’s in our hands to stop it.
